Job title:                    Head of Communications (Maternity Cover)

Reports to:                Chief Executive

Main purpose:           To lead New Anglia LEP’s internal and external communications strategy and oversee LEP media, digital communications, marketing and events programmes

Key relationships:    Chief Executive, Chief Operating Officer, LEP executive team members, LEP board members, external stakeholders

Contract:                   1 Year Fixed Term

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic lead for the LEP’s external and internal communication strategy including: 

  • Building the reputation and profile of New Anglia LEP as a key driver of economic growth
  • Developing communications, marketing and events plans to support the promotion and delivery of the themes in the Economic Strategy for Norfolk and Suffolk
  • Proactively support, promote and market key LEP programmes and projects, including Enterprise Zones, Growing Business Fund, Growth Deal, Ipswich Vision and a wide range of strategy and skills projects
  • Provide strategic and operational communications and marketing support for regional initiatives, including New Anglia Youth Pledge, Enterprise Adviser Network
  • Deliver a wide range of events, driving business engagement and promotion of key LEP priorities and projects
  • Provide strategic leadership on campaigns for better road, rail and infrastructure
  • Champion Suffolk and Norfolk as a great place to live, learn, work and do business
  • Participate in Senior Management Team meetings and relevant discussions regarding management of the LEP. Represent the Managing Director as necessary
  • Responsibility for the management of Press & Digital Media Officer, Events Coordinator and Communications Assistant

This will include:

  • Overseeing production of media materials including press releases, key message documents and notes for speakers
  • Handle media enquiries to tight deadlines and ensure LEP team and board are aware of media issues
  • Develop and maintain strong and productive working relations with key individuals in print, broadcast, specialist and trade media
  • Ensuring the website and social media is vibrant, newsworthy and up to date, using a range of digital media to deliver key messages to business audiences
  • Overseeing production of marketing materials such as leaflets and brochures, ensuring alignment with communication strategy and key LEP objectives.
  • Overseeing organisation, promotion and delivery of a wide range of events
  • Internal communications – ensuring the LEP team, LEP board and partners are informed and engaged on key activities and priorities

Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Working with key LEP partners such as Government, local authorities, MPs business and education leaders to ensure LEP objectives are understood and communicated.
  • Writing board papers and representing the Communications Team at board meetings and partner meetings as required
  • Lead on the development and coordination of business events with partners

  • Implement the legal obligation to maintain a safe working environment at all times
  • Follow the company’s procedures, as described in the Health & Safety Policy
  • Report anything unsafe to the Health & Safety Competent Person and report accidents, near misses and so on in the accident book

Is educated to degree level or equivalent.

Other relevant professional qualifications.

Evidence of continued professional development.


Senior operational experience in print or broadcast media and PR and media relations is essential

Is able to interact confidently with senior business, local authority and Government figures.

Experience of the workings and structures of the public and private sectors.


Is able to demonstrate a very high standard of written and oral communications.

Is able to turn around communications material in a timely fashion.

Is a strong team player able to work across different parts of the business.

Is organised and confident in pressure situations
